Personal. Portrait.

Years ago, I was lucky to meet a wonderful man with broad horizons.

I won’t dwell on his vast knowledge, wisdom, capacities and talents in order to preserve his privacy and modesty.

Nearly twenty years of happy marriage, four beautiful children, and three academic degrees later, his wife decides to bestow upon him a personal gift to celebrate his appointment to a senior position in his academic field.

Since this man esteems knowledge and philosophy of almost every realm, including history, literature, music, mathematics, economics, and Jewish philosophy, his wife intuitively knows that the gift that will touch his heart

more than a party,

more than a night out at a restaurant,

more than even a daytrip –

is a portrait of Maimonides.

Get the picture?

Without a doubt, there’s no paradigm better suited to this person and event than the famed sage Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, known as both the Rambam and Maimonides.

{ I need to hurry — }

As the words of this post come to life, the guest of honor is making his way home—
a long journey spanning many planes and taxis.

As soon as the plane touches down, he’ll turn on his phone to notify his loved one that he’s arrived safely and check for messages.

Among the messages, he’ll notice that there’s a new post on my blog
and click to read
every
single
word.

He will then discover
that someone who loves him and cares for him deeply
hung a new portrait in their home.

Especially for him.

My love,
my best friend in the world,

It’s not only you who knows now.
Some of my faithful readers know as well,

How much I love you.

How much I appreciate you.

How much I congratulate you and celebrate your myriad of accomplishments.

How very happy and grateful I am
to share a life and four beautiful, talented children.
with you.

With you,
in all that you do,
and every big step that you take,
and all the small steps in between.
